FAMILY SHIELD · FOR NIGERIANS ABROAD

Far from home.
Close to their care.

It’s 2am where you are. Your parent/relative is in an emergency in Benin City. One call connects you to our specialist-led team: emergency dispatch, a hospital-deposit advance and updates while care is being coordinated. Be there, even when you can’t be there.

For Nigerians in the UK, USA, Canada and beyond, this is a practical way to arrange emergency care for parents/relatives and loved ones in Nigeria, with one team coordinating care and family updates.

An annual subscription, available in all Nigerian cities. Register your interest here; payment is arranged privately after we speak.

The right hospital for the care they need.

We coordinate bed availability and acceptance with the receiving hospital as part of the transfer plan. The clinical team determines the safest destination and timing; hospital capacity and response availability can change.

Delay can be costly. Plan ahead for emergency care, hospital admission and family updates, instead of arranging everything during a crisis.

Two plans. One promise: your family is covered.

One subscription covers up to 2 named family members. Coverage is subject to the inclusions and waiting periods below.

FAMILY SHIELD HELP

Questions you might be asking

Do I have to pay back the deposit advance?

Yes. The hospital-deposit advance is interest-free and repayable within 30 days. It is an advance, not a grant or payment of the whole hospital bill. The maximum advance is ₦500,000 for Family Shield and ₦750,000 for Family Shield Plus. Eligibility and repayment arrangements are confirmed before enrolment. Hospital treatment and admission remain subject to clinical assessment and hospital capacity.

What if my parent/relative already has health conditions?

No one is excluded. Everyone gets the same cover, subject to the plan’s inclusions and waiting period. The Plus plan’s home visits help us spot risks early and support ongoing conditions before they become emergencies.

Which cities are covered?

Family Shield is available in all Nigerian cities. Tell us your family’s city when registering your interest. The two included emergency transfers apply within your coverage city; inter-state transfers are billed at member rates.

How do I pay from abroad?

Family Shield is an annual subscription. After you register your interest, we’ll explain the next steps and share payment options privately: card in USD, GBP or CAD, or bank transfer. No payment is taken through this interest form. Your family in Nigeria pays nothing at the point of care for services included in the subscription.

What happens after I sign up?

You name your family members, we register them with our dispatch team, and you get your liaison line. Setup is completed in a day. Accident cover starts from day one; cover for non-accident emergencies starts after 30 days.

Can I arrange emergency care for my parents/relatives in Nigeria while living abroad?

Yes. Family Shield is designed for Nigerians living abroad who want a specialist-led emergency team on call for family in Nigeria, with real-time updates during every incident. Register your family’s city so we can coordinate your subscription. For an emergency now, call +234 803 688 2720.

Does Family Shield include ambulance transfers between states?

Each plan includes two emergency ambulance transfers per year within your coverage city. Inter-state transfers are billed separately at member rates. Discuss your route with BlueLight before arranging a transfer.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY NIGERIA · A GUIDE FOR FAMILIES ABROAD

What to do when your parent/relative has a medical emergency

If someone you love becomes seriously ill in Nigeria while you are abroad, call for professional help immediately. Gather the details below while help is being arranged; do not delay the call to complete a checklist.

  1. Call for professional help now

Call BlueLight on +234 803 688 2720 from abroad, or 080 3688 2720 in Nigeria. Tell the dispatcher if the person is unconscious, not breathing normally, or has severe symptoms. Follow their instructions.

  2. Get the key facts

Share what happened, when symptoms began, whether the person is conscious and breathing normally, the exact location and landmarks, and a local callback number. Have known conditions, allergies and medicines ready if available.

  3. Coordinate the right receiving hospital

The clinical team assesses the care needed and coordinates with an appropriate receiving facility. For suspected stroke, timely assessment and access to brain imaging and stroke care matter; an ICU alone does not define a suitable hospital. Ask about admission arrangements and costs without delaying urgent help. Family Shield offers a hospital-deposit advance under agreed terms.

  4. Keep family communication clear

Choose one local contact and one authorised contact abroad. Agree a private update channel, including WhatsApp where appropriate. Share medical information only with the patient’s permission or appropriate authority, rather than a wider family group by default.

Why speed matters: stroke, heart attack and major trauma need urgent assessment. Treatment windows vary; there is no single 60-minute rule for every emergency. Do not wait to see whether serious symptoms settle.

When local care is not enough: we coordinate ground-to-air transfer, medical handover and receiving-team arrangements through air-ambulance partners, within and outside Nigeria. Medevac is quoted per mission and is not a Family Shield benefit.

After the emergency: obtain the discharge summary, clarify the medication schedule and confirm follow-up dates. Arrange tests and rehabilitation when recommended by the treating team. Regular primary care can help identify and manage risks, but cannot prevent every emergency. Family Shield Plus includes two primary-care home visits a year with welfare assessments and blood tests, with results shared with authorised family contacts.

A calmer way: register your interest in Family Shield before an emergency — from $25/month or $270/year (save 10% annually). The deposit advance is interest-free and repayable within 30 days; up to ₦500,000 for Family Shield or ₦750,000 for Family Shield Plus; eligibility is confirmed before enrolment.
